Endangered Animals Of The World

By: Lucien Oliveira

For many years now this subject has been known and exhaustively discussed, but we are still facing the problem. The list of animals endangered of becoming extinct is not getting any smaller. In fact, many endangered species have been added, and some can no longer be saved since they have already disappeared. We cannot let the list of extinct animals to grow because we are taking too long to come in their rescue. The effort has to be great because long is the list of endangered animals.

There are no limits to this threat. All ecoregions in the world including rivers, oceans, forest, plain, ice lands, etc., have animals endangered of becoming extinct. There are many reasons for that: deforestation, loss of natural habitat, pollution, overexploitation, and over-hunting, among others. In the list of endangered species we can find the Java and the Sumatran rhinoceros. Both of them are the world's most endangered rhinos. The Sumatran rhino live in the mountain forest of Indonesia, Malaysia, and maybe Myanmar. It is considered the smallest rhino in the world. It is also a solitary creature, and its main food elements are fruits, twigs, leaves, and shrubs. The main reason for this animal to be listed is over-hunting. There are about 400 rhinos left in Sumatra.

Another endangered animal is the famous giant panda. Pandas love bamboo, and they spend half a day eating. Their natural habitat is central China, in the remote and mountainous areas. This animal is an efficient swimmer and a great climber. He is also solitary and uses his very well-developed sense of smell to find females and avoid males. There are about 1000 pandas left in the wild.

The list goes on and includes the Iberian lynx, a species on the brink of extinction. They are characterized by a small beard-like fur on their face, long legs, and short tail. There are only a few lynxes remaining. The Polar bear is also an animal endangered. The loss of its habitat is highly affecting it because this bear needs the floating ice to survive. They are only found in the Arctic regions: Alaska, Canada, Russia, Greenland, and Norway.

In addition, more unusual species make their appearance in the list of endangered animals. Creatures part of the list include the long-beaked echidna, a mammal that lives in New Guinea, the Bactrian camel, which lives in the Gobi region, the pygmy hippopotamus, found in Western Africa, and even the smallest mammal in the world, the bumblebee bat, found in Thailand and Myanmar, etc. But the list doesn't have only animals that live on dry land. One out of three freshwater fish are threatened with extinction. In the oceans, we find a similar situation. A variety of marine species are in danger of disappearing. As we can see, the problem has grown bigger. The list of endangered animals is huge and if we do not put a stop to it, more species are going to be moved to the list of extinct animals.
